Shugart Nan Growing Up 2

Nan Shugart attended high school in Oak Ridge, Tennessee during the early 1970s. Her involvement with the Women’s movement started when her parents filed a complaint on her behalf under Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendment against the Oak Ridge High School to end girls’ half-court basketball. In college Shugart continued to file Title IX complaints as the manager of the girls’ basketball team at Western Kentucky University. In this interview Shugart reflects on being a female athlete in high school and college’a pathbreaker’and becoming a feminist in her teenage years and early twenties.
