Dr. Suzanne Kurth is a professor of sociology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In this interview, Dr. Kurth offers reflections on feminism as both a social movement and scholarly theory. She reflects on the changing position of women in academia, and the particular efforts of faculty and students in Knoxville in the 1970s around feminist issues, such as getting a Women’s studies program at the university. Dr. Kurth also offers an analysis of social movements, and reflects on the limitations of how scholars conceptualize social movements.
